Apple Airpods Pro ( 1st generation ) : ( Review Complete )

This is the Pair of Apple Airpods Pro ( 1st generation ).

This is the set of earbuds to buy for only $50 USD extra than the original model with the wireless charging case. The AirPods Pro (first version) have an improved fit, superior sound quality, and active noise cancellation. Just get this if you have an iOS device.

The Apple AirPods Pro (1st generation) includes new functions, a new pricing, and a new look, yet it still clearly identifies as an AirPod. These Apple earbuds not only seal the ear canal but also provide active noise cancellation, in contrast to the original model that received a lot of (deserved) criticism for not doing so (ANC). By virtue of this fact alone, the AirPods Pro are miles ahead of the older models on paper. But does it merit the money? To find out, we used the original AirPods Pro for two weeks.

Finding the proper ear tip size is important when using the AirPods Pro because it will determine how comfortable the rest of your experience will be. The ear tips will hurt if they are too large, and they will probably fall out if they are too small. They will fit snugly in your ear canal once you've placed the proper ear tip size. You should be able to start listening to music straight away after pairing the AirPods Pro with your phone without having to fiddle with many settings. The goal of the product, like that of every previous Apple creation, is for it to "simply work."

While we're talking about ear tips, they have also been updated. These are made especially for the AirPods Pro, as opposed to pretty much every other pair of earphones that essentially always use the same ear tips. Each earbud has a small area around the speaker driver where the ear tip clicks in place and clings firmly. To be fair, these buds don't have nozzles, so there's no need to pinch the silicon ear tip to squeeze it around the nozzle. It can be challenging to adjust the AirPods Pro tips at first, but switching back to conventional ear tips is difficult.

Apple secretly upgraded the AirPods Pro charging case at the same time it unveiled the new AirPods (3rd generation) on October 18, 2021. The AirPods Pro case is now compatible with the MagSafe wireless charger, allowing you to use it with an iPhone 12 or later.

How do you Control Airpods Pro?

Each earbud includes a pressure-sensitive stem in place of conventional touch controls. To give a command, you squeeze the stem in a specific way. Music can be played or paused with a single squeeze of the stem; the next song can be skipped with a double or triple squeeze. By holding down the stem for a long time, transparency mode is easily accessed. For a complete list of AirPods Pro controls, see the table below.

Software Features

The AirPods Pro incorporates a few characteristics that make them more functional than standard wireless earbuds. You can also perform an ear tip fit test to make sure they are in your ears properly. This will determine if you need to use a different pair of ear tips or if the active noise cancellation is effective. You must enter Bluetooth settings and then hit the tiny I icon next to the AirPods in order to accomplish this.

If you're using iOS, you have a few extra options, including the ability to rename them, choose whether active noise cancellation is turned on or off, and alter the tap-and-hold functionality for each earbud.

The Apple AirPods Pro supports the Find My AirPods feature, so you won't have to worry if you're the type of earphone owner who frequently loses their headphones in your couch. If their phones still have battery, iPhone owners can utilise their phones to find lost earbuds. This feature is significantly more crucial than many would want to acknowledge, especially considering how simple it is to lose a single earpiece.

Only Apple devices may use these features, including Spatial Audio (more on that later). None of this is accessible through your Android device's Settings menu.

The AirPods Pro earphones have Bluetooth 5.0 and support the SBC and AAC codecs, giving iPhones dependable, high-quality audio. AAC is compatible with Android, although depending on your hardware, its performance may vary. Remember that there are many of excellent earphones for Android phones available; these are not the ones you should buy.

How does long battery stay?

With ANC enabled, we achieved 4 hours, 20 minutes of continuous music playback in our normal battery test, which is somewhat better than average for most true wireless models. Our findings support Apple's claims of a playback time of 4 hours and 30 minutes with active noise cancellation activated and loudness set to roughly 50%. We discovered that the battery life increases to 5 hours, 6 minutes without ANC. It's even better that the charging case is entirely compatible with any MagSafe or Qi wireless charger, providing you with enough charges for a 24-hour listening session.

Issue

The charging case still needs a Lightning cable, which is a problem because, well, reasons. The provided cable is now lightning on one side and USB-C on the other, which is quite inconvenient because you now have to carry this exact connector everywhere you go. Naturally, if you already own the newer iPhone, which also comes with this cable, it isn't a big concern. However, if you haven't upgraded yet (or don't plan to), this is a bothersome nuisance that you'll have to put up with.

How does the Sound Quality?

The frequency response of the AirPods Pro (cyan) closely resembles our ideal response curve and has excellent audio quality. This indicates that the majority of songs should sound good to listeners without the need to significantly adjust the audio using a third-party software or the EQ on your streaming service. Apple's Adaptive EQ also equalises audio to account for the shape of your ears (learn more: What is a DSP?). The AirPods Pro will therefore sound more consistent from user to user than other headphones. Additionally, active noise reduction makes it sound far better than its predecessors because your music isn't competing with street noise, bus engines, or aeroplane cabin noise.

Bad Bunny's song Callaita has a strong bottom sound, complete with sub-bass synthesisers. Even while they are not as pronounced as on many consumer earphones at lower price points, drum kicks and deep voices are quite effectively reproduced. Here, both the treble notes and the mids sound fantastic. High-pitched details from Cory Chisel's song Songbird should be audible. Here, the guitar squeaks and strumming don't sound annoying but rather pleasant.

Apple revealed that the AirPods Pro are compatible with "spatial audio" during WWDC 2020. Spatial Audio, Apple's take on virtual surround sound, places audio cues around you in three dimensions using software algorithms and the accelerometers in the AirPods Pro. In doing so, the immersive sense of being in the centre of a complete surround sound setup is simulated. When you are watching videos, the AirPods Pro's accelerometers sync with the accelerometer on the source device. In this manner, the audio you are listening to in a car or on a plane will only change when you move your head and not when the vehicle is turning.
